FBI TO INTRODUCE SAFE ONLINE SURFING PROGRAM

James Casey, Special Agent in Charge of the Jacksonville Division of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, is pleased to join with the FBI First Coast Citizens Academy Alumni Association in announcing the local introduction of the FBI Safe Online Surfing program, known as FBI-SOS.

Developed by the FBI’s Miami Division and administered by the Common Knowledge Scholarship Foundation at Nova Southeastern University, FBI-SOS is an interactive Web-based program that teaches middle-school students and their parents how to stay safe online. Designed to operate through participating schools and teachers, FBI-SOS gives students information on how to recognize and react to online dangers and concerns associated with chat rooms, social networking sites, e-mail, and cell phones.

Informational sessions will be held during this weekend’s Family Art Fest & Salute to the Troops at the Midtown Centre in the St. Nicholas area. FBI-SOS representatives will present workshops in the Schultz Center, located on Boulevard Center Drive between Beach Boulevard and Art Museum Drive. For more information about the art festival, including a schedule of events and maps, see www.familyartfestsalutetothetroops.org.

Parents and teachers can learn more about FBI-SOS by visiting www.FBI-SOS.org or by calling the FBI’s Community Outreach Specialist at (904)721-1211.
